Every Express Checkout Option on Shopify, Compared

Shopify supports Shop Pay, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay as express checkout options, plus Amazon Pay and others via integrations. Express options let buyers skip form-filling with saved details, and enabling all of them (free with Shopify Payments where available) is one of the highest-value, lowest-effort checkout improvements.

Shop Pay

The native option: saved email, address, and payment for any buyer who has used it on any Shopify store. Fastest for repeat Shopify shoppers and the strongest on mobile. Free with Shopify Payments.

PayPal

The longest-tenured wallet and still a significant share of checkout preference in many niches, especially with older buyers and international customers. Runs alongside Shopify Payments as an additional method. Some buyers simply will not buy without it.

Apple Pay and Google Pay

Device-native wallets: Apple Pay for the large iPhone share of ecommerce traffic, Google Pay for Android and Chrome. Both use the device-stored card and address, so checkout is a fingerprint or face scan. Enable through Shopify Payments settings.

Which to enable and how

All of them, since each covers a different buyer habit and none costs extra beyond normal processing. In Settings then Payments, activate Shopify Payments with all wallets, add PayPal, and confirm express buttons appear on product and cart pages in your theme. Then watch checkout completion by payment method in analytics.

Frequently asked questions

Do express buttons on product pages hurt anything?
They can skip the cart for single-item buyers, which is usually fine; watch that bundle or multi-item buyers are not confused.
Are there fees for Apple Pay or Google Pay?
No extra fees; transactions process at your standard Shopify Payments rates.
What about buy-now-pay-later?
Shop Pay Installments and third-party BNPL providers are separate options with merchant fees; enable deliberately, not by default.
